Merry Clayton, “Glad Tidings,” from Gimme Shelter (Ode, 1970)

Merry Clayton is, of course, famous for her vocals on the Stones’ “Gimme Shelter,” but this solo record, released about a year later, is a slammin’ affair. Here’s that album’s unlisted closing cut, a pretty great version of Van Morrison’s “Glad Tidings.”

By the way, there’s some small type on the back cover that says, “She Was Born on Christmas Day.” Hence, I surmise, “Merry.”
